Success At Last

Hooray, I finally got my iPod connected to the Internet. It seems that
the public hotspot all along Naxos waterfront is simply overloaded
most of the time.
It was scorching again today. We went to Plaka beach which is simply
stunning. In fact all of the "different" beaches down the coast here
are really just one long continuous beach of beautiful white sand and
clear turquise water. All that distinguishes one from another is the
facilities both on and behind the beach.
At Plaka we stumbled on an absolute gem of a taverna. Family run with
several generations in evidence and a place where they still take you
into the kitchen to "show you the menu". I had Briam, one of my
favourite Greek dishes of various vegetables slow cooked in oil and
herbs. Wife had "breakfast number 4" which ended with so much Greek
yoghurt and honey that we shared it as a desert. The whole thing threw
tomorrows plans into chaos as we simply MUST eat there again!
The delightful food didn't end there either. This evenings dinner was
at Scirocco, a place we got from a book. This lived up to its billing
and provided is with possibly the best Greek meal we've had - and
we've had a lot! Vegetable Souvalaki, giant beans (beans so large I
recorded the end of each bean with my gps unit!), cheese saganaki and
a dish of aubergines, tomato and cheese that was simply divine. We were
stuffed full at the end, so much so that once again we were unable to
call in at any of the dessert stops that we have lined up. I wonder if
we'll EVER manage to get in one! At €25 it was also one of the
cheapest meals out that we've had on holiday lately.
Well we're just sipping cocktails now as we wait for the sun to slip
onto the ocean. Happy days, and still many more of them left!
