way, with a stroll up Republic Street but then sidestepped into
Merchant Street on the lookout for new, as yet unknown restaurants.
There really weren't any, Merchant Street is pretty much dead as far
as nightlife goes. What we did find though was St James's church,
doors flung wide and an African service going on inside. The music and
voices as they sang their "hymns" (they didn't sound like hymns as we
usually know them) was fabulous and quite moving.
Next up was dinner overlooking St Paul's Co-Cathedral. A trio of pizza
places to choose from here and we went for Caravaggio's. Pizzas were
beautiful, ambience divine, views spectacular and the company
delightful.
It was a shame to leave, but leave we had to in search of The Bridge
Bar, a place we'd found before, 3 years ago, but which never gets a
mention anywhere (I intend to change that). Laid out in the street and
on the bridge just behind Victoria Gate it's a real gem. Candles light
the steps of the pavement which doubles up as seating when the chairs
are all filled (which is always). Once again the setting and ambience
coupled with the supeb wine proved an unbeatable combination. We
noticed that they do "platters" - the cheese one looked tempting - so
we may go back for dinner there one night.
On the way "home" we stopped at the all-night bakery for breakfast.
Seem mean to only spend 30c but a freshly baked loaf is just sooo cheap!
Off to bed now and Mdina in the morning.
