Seasons, the cafe/bar/restaurant that we like so much in The Station at Richmond now has a branch in Darlington. We've already been in for a quick snack and a coffee and went back again on Saturday for a full blown lunch. They had one of their special menus on, this time being "French". Limited choice for us vegetarians meant that we both had to have the same meal, something we don't normally go for, but what it lacked in choice it made up for in quality.
We started with a Brie & roasted pepper filled crepe, served alongside a portion of ratatouille. For main course we had a winter vegetable cassoulet, served with Dauphinois potatoes. It was all absolutely delicious, esepecially the cassoulet which had good chunks of all sorts of vegetables and whole, tiny, baby carrots.
The previous time we'd been into Seasons it was rather empty, and there's nothing sadder than an empty restaurant. This time it was almost full, the window seats in particular being very popular with their view out onto the snow falling on Post House Wynd being very picturesque, Christmasy and rather romantic. We spent almost two hours in there over our meal, the papers, drinks and finally, dessert. This was a Crème brûlée (pictured) over spiced apple compote and was an absolute delight, so lovely in fact that we forgot about the coffees that we hadn't received. Not to worry, the fact that they'd forgotten to bring them meant that when they did arrive they were on the house!
Seasons is in Post House Wynd, Darlington in a converted pub. Don't be put off by the rather dark and still pub-like exterior, inside it's wonderful.

It's irritating when restaurants waste perfectly good raspberry sauce as a fancy 'garnish' - how are you supposed to eat it with dignity / without smearing the rest of your dessert on the plate in an attempt to mop it up?
Does look delicious though!
