So we've left Syros. We were out bright and early into the sunny, but
not overpowering warmth of morning for breakfast by the harbour. By
10am (yes, here you can easily stretch breakfast to be over an hour, a
big contrast to the 10 minute dash at home) our ferry had arrived on
its outward journey to Mykonos, so we knew we were going home.
We still had two hours, so Sue did the last shopping that she'll be
doing for sometime while wearing Havianas. Her perfect little toes
will be crammed back into shoes for the next couple of months.
Eventually midday came and so did our ferry. We upgraded to business
class (an outrageously cheap €6) and left the seething mass of
backpackers behind. Here I have my very own cafe (ok, it's for all of
business class but there are only 4 of us in here) more legroom than I
could dream of and an uninstructed view straight aheead. That's not
always a good idea on a Greek ferry, especially if there's an
important football match on (that comment is only relevant to those
"in the know").
Piraeus in 2 hours (we're on the fastest boat in Greece, 40 knots from
a full sized ship carrying people cars and trucks is not to be sniffed
at) and then a quick look at the sights of Athens. It will be a VERY
quick look - thankfully we're staying right amongst them!
