We spent today at one of our favourite places - St George's. This
place has a grand cliff-top church, ruined basilica, caves, fishing
harbour and wild, windswept beach with rockpools and offshore island.
It's both an interesting and picturesque spot and we always come here
more than once on each holiday. It could be even nicer if not for that
most beloved of pastimes "dropping plastic bottles", though I guess it
must get tidied from time to time as it doesn't seem to get
progressively worse.
We spent a few hours down by the sea, having a picnic lunch and an ice
cream in that time and turning the traditional British colour of
Lobster Red. We'd thought about going on to Lara Bay, down the dirt
track road "recommended for 4wd only". Well the Impreza is 4wd so
now's our chance to do it, maybe, though the fact it has about 2"
ground clearance kind of offsets the fact it has 4wd when faced with
lumpy dirt tracks. We decided not to go. For now.
Evening was spent at Deck, amongst the chic young Cypriot families all
out enjoying a sunny Easter Sunday. Wife declared Greeks (for all
they're Cypriot they're really Greeks) to be the most stylish and cool
looking blokes on the planet, ahead of Italians. It was hard to argue
with that, and my Bloc sunglasses felt grossly outclasses by whatever
they were wearing, be they expensive or cheap they just really looked
the business, and that's what it's all about. I think the women still
come second behind Maltese though.
Dinner at PizzaExpress was not as "special" as it is at home - it's
got too much great competition over here. Plus we had to pay with
money instead of Tesco vouchers. Now that was a shock to the system!
