was much cause to visit it according to The Rough Guide, but we went
anyway.
Parking proved troublesome but we got parked eventually after a few
laps round the block. No sooner had we got into town than it started
to rain. Cafe time then...
We went into the excellent Senso, just off the main square. Typically
chic downstairs it had an even chicer "chill out lounge" upstairs with
a balcony overlooking the square. Meals looked good, but it was too
soon for lunch.
The rain stopped and we ventured out. The main square has not one, not
two but three lovely chuches, ranging in size from smallest to largest
across the square and ranging in age the same way. We went into the
newest and largest first, which has a lovely interior. Crossing the
square the next church was closed so we couldn't take a look inside.
The final, smallest and oldest church (700 years old) was open and its
interior was fabulous with old wall paintings and iconography, and
with plates and bowls embedded into the walls.
It was lunch time now and as chance would have it we spotted a very
traditional looking Taverna just down the road. Quiet outside it was
packed inside, and the menu had a lot of our firm favourites. We
didn't want a lot for lunch so we plumped for saganaki feta, hummous
and tzatziki, all with lovely soft Pitta breads.
Leaving the taverna the sun came out so we went back to the square to
take photos of the three churches.
We liked Paralimni and I can't for the life of me think why The Rough
Guide would omit to mention the three churches! We also liked the cafe
life and spotted one to come back to for dinner tomorrow night.
