Kalavassos

We're staying up at Kalavassos now, a village up in the once copper mining hills between Limassol and Larnaca. We're here because we saw the villas on "My Greek Kitchen", a cooking show we used to watch!

The house we're in is strange; it has a lovely big bedroom (huge in fact) with en-suite on the ground floor and a second bedroom with a huge balcony up above. The house faces out onto a nice courtyard and is right next door to the village square and its exceedingly convivial taverna. All good so far. The only thing that knocks it down is the horrible furniture, old, dark wood pieces that are doubtless supposed to be "in keeping with the character of the building". We hate them.

The wardrobe features a comedy hanging system (it needs a photo to explain it) but is surpassed by the dresser that has legs at the front and not the back and so leans at an alarming angle! All that dark wood makes the place look dark and a bit forboding. I'm not saying to kit it out in Bauhaus, but a bit of modernity to lift it would be a plus, in my eyes at least.

We're enjoying being here though, it's handily placed for the places we want to visit on this leg of the holiday and I can think of no better way to spend a summer evening than sat in the square supping Keo and watching out for Ginger. Ginger is a gorgeous tom cat who scratches a living scrounging scraps at the taverna. We bought cat food today so we could feed him and he gratefully gobbled down a whole bowl of Wiskas tonight. We've seen
dozens of beautiful strays in Cyprus, I'd adopt them all if it was at all practical.
